As an alternative to harsh chemical sprays you can make your own simple and low-cost solution at home. One of the earliest DIY cleaning formulas that was picked up in the media was to use vinegar. Mix 2 tablespoons of white vinegar with a gallon of water into a spray bottle, squirt on the window and scrub with newspaper. Give it a go, many swear by it!
This battery powered handheld device provides an easy way to clean your windows leaving them streak and smear free. Spray the detergent and wipe it with a cloth as you would normally, then slowly glide the vacuum over the area allowing it to suck up the dirt from the excess water. They range from around £30 all the way up to £100 depending on the make and model.
If you’re into gadgets then you might want to invest in a window cleaning robot such as Winbot. Plug it in, spray the cleaning pads with your solution, place it against the window and turn it on. It’ll then measure the window’s surface by going up and down before zig-zagging across and cleaning the whole window. It’s around £230 but could be the window cleaning solution for you.
If you’re not so keen on the idea of using newspaper to clean your windows but don’t mind putting in a bit of elbow grease, E-Cloths are really effective. They work using hot water alone so you don’t need to spend extra on detergents and sprays so are great for keeping costs down.
If squeegees are good enough for professional window cleaners then they’re good enough for everyone else. Use a soapy solution to act as a lubricant to break up dirt and then use the squeegee to draw the dirt off the glass. They come in all shapes and sizes and many have varying attachments such as sponges and telescoping poles.
